Grand Lake Classic finishes as a family affair

The 30th Annual Grand Lake Classic 2008 cross-country ski race was a real family affair last Sunday as locals and family members dominated the results.

Held at the Grand Lake Touring Center, the Classic featured 10- and 5-kilometer Nordic freestyle races. Children also raced in the annual event’s 1- and 2-kilometer races.

The overall winners of the Classic’s 10K race were two well-known local ski racers. Shawn Scholl of Kremmling won the men’s 10K with a ski time of 34:06. In the women’s race, Karen Waeschle of Fraser won it with a racing time of 38:03.

In the 5K race, two members of the Zink family were victorious. Colby Zink won the men’s race with a time of 22:06. In the women’s 5K, Linnea Zink was the overall winner with a ski time of 22:48.

In the 2K race, Logan Miyauchi was the boys’ overall winner with a time of 2:55.

Elizabeth Hogan was the girls’ overall winner with 3:18.

In the 1K race, Erin Hennessey won with a time of 1:17.
