Help bring Public Radio back to Grand County

Print Comment
To the Editor:

Cruising along in my automobile, enjoying the scenery. Traffic up here is getting a bit worse, but traffic reports still just make me smile. How to make this picture perfect?
How about getting rid of those pesky, frequent ads on the radio? It can be done.

KUNC, the best dang public radio station anywhere in the country, wants to put a repeater in Grand County. No ads does come with a price — listeners are asked to support the station’s non-profit operation. KUNC needs to raise $40,000 to pay for the license and repeater. We are about one third of the way there. If you donate, your money will be held until the $40,000 is raised. If it is not raised, your money will be returned.

The most important reason to donate is the news. Media outlets are increasingly profit driven. In this critical election year, we need accurate and unbiased information. With climate questions looming that will determine the future of our wondrous planet, we need real information. KUNC brings hours of news coverage every day, with stories lasting tens of minutes instead of the seconds-long snippets we are expected to be satisfied with.

I don’t know about you, but the hours I work are way too long. When I have KUNC in the background, with educational topics, diverse music, and in-depth news, the work hours seem to slip by.

We lost this wonderful station’s weak signal several months ago when the distant transmitter moved to a better location for the Front Range masses. Help us bring the station back to Grand County. Send you tax deductible checks to KUNC, with a note saying Grand County, 822 7th St., Suite 530 Greeley, CO 80631.
