To the Editor:

The Fraser Valley Library marked its 10th birthday with a celebration on Saturday, April 19. The occasion was attended by many residents and visitors who joined the library staff in a variety of activities.

The day began with wonderful music by Joan and Roger Shaw, while people gathered in the library's Urban Community Meeting Room for remarks by library staff and board members. Mary Anne Wilcox, Grand County Library district director and former Fraser Valley branch librarian, reviewed the history of the Fraser Branch over the past several decades.

Jack Kacik, Grand County Library District trustee, spoke about what the library means to both himself and his family as library users. Kathy Mikol, Branch Librarian, highlighted future projects for the Fraser Valley Library and changes in store for public libraries in general. Representatives from the towns of both Fraser and Winter Park were also present.

After this brief reception, an entertaining hour of storytelling was provided by Lynn Jennings in the children's section of the library. Lynn is the Youth Services Librarian in Granby and also served in that capacity for many years at the Fraser Valley Library. Over 50 adults and children were on hand for a performance at 2 p.m. by Magic Rob, who engaged the audience with card tricks, and even changed doves into rabbits before their eyes.

Many kids stood patiently in line while he made dozens of balloon animals over the next hour. Cake and ice cream were served in the lobby, while library staff painted colorful faces on many delighted children until the day ended at 4 p.m.

This event would not have been possible without generous donations from both the towns Fraser and Winter Park. The Fraser Valley Library is appreciative of their ongoing support.

We also want to thank everyone who came indoors on a beautiful spring day to join us; we look forward to seeing you all in another 10 years.
