Winter Park residents interested in adopting laws, ordinances and resolutions can apply for a spot on the Town Council.
The opening became available when former Mayor Nick Teverbaugh, who held the position for 26 years, stepped down from his post April 15. However, he will remain on council until mid-July, when the position is expected to be filled.
Winter Park is a home rule municipality. Council members choose the mayor and mayor pro-tem for two-year terms from among themselves. Members recently selected Jim Myers as mayor and Rusty Thompson as mayor pro-tem for two-year terms.
Other council members are Chris Seemann, Jimmy Lahrman, Vince Turner and Mike Periolat.
The council will interview community members to find a council member to take Teverbaugh’s spot on the board until the next elections. After reviewing letters of interest and resumes, they will set up interviews with prospective candidates. Town Clerk Patti Garcia recommends that interested people attend council meetings to become familiar with town issues.
Meetings take place the first and third Tuesday of each month at Winter Park Town Hall, 50 Vasquez. The first meeting is at 5:30 p.m. and the second meeting of the month is at 8 a.m. Work sessions take place before the first Tuesday of the month.
To apply to serve on the board, send a letter of interest and resume to Garcia: pgarcia@wpgov.com or addressed to P.O. Box 3327, 50 Vasquez Road, Winter Park, CO 80482-3327.
