The Sulphur Ranger District will continue burning slash piles throughout the month of May to remove hazardous fuels from past timber harvest activities.
The pile burnings will take place west of Grand Lake along the Kawuneeche Road, west of Lake Granby near Willow Creek Reservoir, and in the Williams Fork Valley, north of the Keyser Creek Road.
The Forest Service will place notification signs in the area when burning is active.
The Sulphur Ranger District pile burning will take place in high elevation areas where slash piles are still covered and surrounded with snow. Pile burning only takes place when weather, snow cover, and smoke dispersal conditions are favorable and consistent with our prescribed fire plan.
The public can find regularly updated information about our pile burning activities online at www.fs.fed.us/r2/arnf/conditions/srdbarkbeetle/index.shtml.
For more information, please contact Paul Mintier, fire management officer, Sulphur Ranger District at (970) 887-4128.
