Rhonda Farrell of Granby is the first-place winner of this year’s Fourth Annual Icebox Drop, and in collecting her winnings Tuesday, she redistributed them to local organizations.

The tie-died refrigerator plummeted to the depths of the Fraser Pond on Friday, May 9, at 2:36.46 p.m., announced contest facilitator Deb Ruttenberg, director of the Grand Futures Prevention Coalition. Farrell’s guess was for 3 p.m., May 9, making her the recipient of the coalition’s first-place award of $500.

Farrell returned $250 of her winnings to Grand Futures, which netted $1,400 in this year’s spring fundraiser held to provide funds for substance abuse prevention services. Farrell said she would donate the remaining $250 to the Grand Theater of Winter Park.

Cynthia Brunswig of Fraser was the $250 second place winner with her guess of 3:30.22 p.m., May 9; and Chris Hill of Granby was awarded $100 for the guess of 1:30.26 p.m. on May 9.

Ruttenberg said the coalition surpassed last year’s Icebox Drop fundraiser total and thanked the record number of sponsors who helped facilitate the contest this year.

The refrigerator has since been retrieved from the pond, thanks to coalition board member Mike Graul and a “good Samaritan” who happened along and provided needed assistance, Ruttenberg said.
