Complimentary to Arts Week, The Elizabeth Kurtak Art Gallery presents its second annual Grand County Artists’ Group Exhibition with a reception tonight.
The public is invited to view work on display through Aug. 4, with an evening reception of art, wine, refreshment, and a chance to socialize with most of the 18 local artists who are participating this year.
Returning artists are Patricia Alander, showcasing six of her new pottery pieces and two of her signature monotypes, painter Patty Madison, watercolor artist Fran Cassidy, Grafton Boehner, mixed-media artist Christina Minasian, multi-media painter Donna Lyons, painter Eric Van Herwaarden and fine artist and gallery owner Elizabeth Kurtak (known for her vivid watercolors of plants and wildlife).
Cassidy, whose works are usually in watercolor, has been working with pastels and is hoping to have five landscape scenes in various sizes at the gallery on display, along with the third printing of his book of short stories.
One painting in particular, called “Devil’s Thumb 6:30 a.m.,” highlights a sunrise at the local ranch resort. Boehner is known for his drawings, paintings (mostly watercolor and some acrylic and oils) and Intaglio prints.
Minasian is mostly known for her jewelry and said her new collages and sculpture are inspired by her jewelry. She’ll have about 25 pieces on display at the gallery, including two-dimensional collage work and abstract sculpture with hanging mobiles, beads and words incorporated into them.
Van Herwaarden plans to showcase around three of his oil paintings, which are incredibly vibrant and range from abstract to landscape.
New to this year’s collaborative show are painter Carol Kitts, painter Susan Reed, painter Hugh Beykirch, sculptor Bridget Cookson, photographers Eileen Pacheco and Steven Willis, painter Lisa Tarr, mixed-media and silk artist Martha Hut, jeweler John Osborn, and diverse, colorful fine artist India Alar Moon.
Kitts, who will also be a feature at this weekend’s Alpine ArtAffair in Winter Park, is known for her watercolors of landscapes and birds. Reed works in watercolor and oil painting and is known for her floral landscapes. She set to showcase five all-new pieces at the gallery, one a big watercolor and the other four are 8x10 or 9x12 oils.
Willis, who is known for his photographs with detailed color emphasis and captured dramatic skies, will display about seven hanging works (mostly of landscapes with mountain-top, tough-to-get-to views) and hopes to have a couple bins of prints available.
Tarr, who is mostly known for her children’s book illustrations, will have three oil plein air paintings on display. Two smaller ones, about 10x10, are of the Westcliffe area and there’s a larger piece, about 16x20, of the Taos, NM region.
Moon will showcase about four pieces at the gallery, including two Native American-style paintings with handmade frames with leather, semi-precious stones and feathers. The author will also have copies of one of her books for purchase.
Meet them and many of the other artists and socialize with your friends and neighbors. Just follow the path through the garden gate at 201 Eisenhower Drive.
