GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - A woman accused of stealing a dog that was tortured and killed last week allegedly told her brother to "get rid" of the German shepherd mix.
That's according to an affidavit in the theft arrest of 32-year-old Melissa Lockhart. Her brother, 37-year-old Steven Romero, is accused of dragging the dog named Buddy to his death in Colorado National Monument last week.
Romero faces animal cruelty charges and is being held on bond. Lockhart is free on bond and faces felony theft and false reporting charges.
According to Lockhart's arrest affidavit, Lockhart stole two dogs last week and then brought Buddy to Romero's house and asked him to "get rid of the dog."
