Drowsy Water Ranch corrals global award

Who needs Cancun, Fiji or Belize? Granby's own Drowsy Water Ranch has been voted TripAdvisor's No. 1 All-Inclusive Resort in the world - that's right - THE WORLD. Located on CR 219 between Granby and Hot Sulphur Springs, Drowsy Water Ranch was chosen by seasoned travelers as one of the best vacations they've ever taken. Visitors raved on TripAdvisor's comment section about the ranch's food, staff, horses, scenery, children's program, and, mostly, about the family that runs it -the Foshas. For more than 80 years, this 600-acre ranch has served as a western getaway for families from around the world. Since 1977, Ken and Randy Sue Fosha have owned and operated the ranch with the help of sons Justin and Ryan, and - more recently - daughter-in-law Gretta and 2-year-old granddaughter Peyton. The family said it was surprised and delighted by the award"I'm pretty sure dude ranches are not the No. 1 vacation in the world," said ranch patriarch Ken Fosha. "Some people are skeptical of the rustic setting. But, folks come here and find that its a great family vacation. It brings them back together, and they make friends they keep for life." Weekly family rates range from $775 for very young children to $1,785 for family members over 18. The all-inclusive package covers accommodations in one of the ranch's nine log cabins or rooms in the sleeping lodge (all with private baths), all meals, a personal horse for the week, children's supervised programs, fishing, use of the heated pool and hot tub and all ranch activities, including hayrides, dancing, carnival, staff shows, campfires, sing-alongs and a river float trip. One commenter from Annapolis, Md., wrote in October 2009: "This vacation was the most beautiful adventure of our lives. We have been on vacations all over the world, from Hawaii to Europe to the Carribean, so who knew that right here in the continental US we would find the best vacation! The Fosha family is the main reason that the vacation was so spectacular - they are real live cowboys and cowgirls that work from sun up to sun down to provide every guest with the absolute best experience ever."And in November 2008, a guest from Flordia commented: "Our family typically visits other countries, beaches, cruises and lots of ski vacations, but we found Drowsy Water Ranch to be a unique and genuine experience. The staff was top notch! Riding program excellent (even had me loping after cattle by the end of the week)! The owners, who run the ranch, are some of the nicest people you will ever meet!"Another reviewer from Atlanta, Ga. wrote in August 2009: "My family chose DWR after an exhaustive search of dude ranches in Colorado. It turned out to be a perfect choice. It's not fancy or elegant, but it was comfortable and charming and one of the most genuinely welcoming places we've ever been."Properties received awards in the following categories: Best Bargains, Best Luxury, Best for Families, Best for Romance, Best B&Bs and Inns, Best Relaxation and Spa, Trendiest, Best Service, Best All-Inclusive and Best Hotels by Region. To date, Drowsy Water has received 32 reviews on TripAdvisor, each one rating the ranch as "excellent" and recommending it to other travelers. According to Todd Skelton, ad sales manager for TripAdvisor, the rating is based on a secret combination of factors but primarily takes into account the resort's overall reviews and its "huge traffic trends" on TripAdvisor, and with TripAdvisor's booking partners.Another Colorado hotel - Dunton Hot Springs in Dolores - was ranked seventh on the list along with resorts in Jamaica, South Africa, Mexico, Sri Lanka, Fiji, St. Lucia and Belize. - Reid Armstrong can be reached at 970-887-3334 ext. 19610 or rarmstrong@skyhidailynews.com.On the WebFor the complete 2010 Travelers' Choice list, visit www.tripadvisor.com/travelerschoice
