Inaugural Middle Park Half Marathon just around the corner

On Saturday, July 9, the town of Granby will be taking the next step toward becoming a destination for adventure-seeking sports people from around the country with the inaugural Middle Park Half Marathon.

This race will be utilizing the roads of the Legacy Park Ranch development east of Granby. After starting just east of town, the runners will head up County Road 60 onto a big 6-mile loop that returns to County Road 60 and eventually into downtown Granby to the finish line in front of the Town Hall.

Produced by Dig Deep Sports, this course has all the makings of a classic must-do venue. No matter where one is on the course, the scenery is captivating with the Fraser River Valley, the vista of the Never Summer Range and the panorama of Byers and St. Louis peaks. Most of the 600 feet of climbing in the Middle Park Half is done in the first 4 miles, and from there the course meanders through sagebrush meadows and lodgepole forests.

The Granby Chamber of Commerce plans to host a "Party at the Park" at the finish line for racers, spectators and volunteers. Several Granby merchants will be on-hand selling food and products.

Each competitor will receive a quality hoody sweatshirt and running hat. Prizes will include local gift certificates, sunglasses from Rudy Project, running store certificates and much more.

Though this race is an attractive venue for the Front Range runner because Granby is historically 15 degrees cooler than Denver in July, the race has already become an eye-catching affair to runners from other states. As of June 26, runners from 11 different states had registered for the race.
