Grand County Concert Series presents the Zodiac Trio on Feb. 10

The Grand County Concert Series' second concert presents the Zodiac Trio, piano, violin and clarinet. The trio appears in Grand County's classical music series for the first time.

"Our concert for the Grand County Concert Series is part of an extensive tour across the country and we are most delighted to be in Colorado," said Kliment Krylovskiy of the Zodiac Trio. "One of the major underlying goals of our ensemble is to bring the clarinet-violin-piano repertoire, new, well-known and hidden gems, to a wide audience."

Originally formed in 2006 at the Manhattan School of Music, the Zodiac Trio enjoys a concert schedule that spans three continents. They have performed throughout Canada, the United States, Japan, parts of Europe and most of the major cities in China. Their debut at the Kaufman Center prompted Edith Eisler of the New York Concert Review to describe the ensemble as "excellent, talented and committed." Some of the performances in 2010-11 included the celebrated Schneider Concert Series at the New School in New York; Virtuosi Series in Winnipeg in Canada; the Four Seasons Performing Arts Centre in Toronto; the International Colmar Festival; and a return to China for a second tour.

From Jan. 30 to Feb. 4, 2012, the Zodiac Trio presents the second annual Boston New Music Project. The project includes master classes, seminars and concerts, featuring works of American living composers. The Zodiac Trio collaborates with Tufts University, the Boston Conservatory and the Berklee College of Music for the Boston New Music Project.

During the month of February, the Zodiac Trio will perform 13 concerts in Massachusetts, Colorado, California, New York and Texas. While the Zodiac Trio is in Grand County, the musicians will also teach and perform for students in the East Grand School District. The workshops are made possible by a grant from the East Grand Education Foundation.

The Zodiac Trio will release a recording on the Blue Griffin label at the end of February. The CD will feature Bela Bartok's "Contrasts," Igor Stravinsky's "L'Histoire du Soldat," Galina Ustolvskaya's Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano, and the world-premiere recording of acclaimed French composer Nicolas Bacri's "A Smiling Suite."

The Grand County Concert Series, now in its ninth season, brings classical music to the Fraser Valley. There are four winter concerts and three summer concerts in the 2012 season. Concerts are followed by a dessert reception to meet the artists. Six of the seven concerts are held at the Church of the Eternal Hills in Tabernash. The seventh concert is an outdoor concert held at Hideaway Park in Winter Park. The concert is a partnership between the Grand County Concert Series and the Winter Park/Fraser Valley Chamber of Commerce.
