The 2012 Three Lakes Fishing Contest attracted 1,090 participants, which is more than last year by at least 100 people, according to Granby Chamber of Commerce Interim Executive Director Laurie Findley.
“I'm just thrilled,” Findley said, who noted the increase in participation was in spite of the contest raffle not offering the “big-ticket” prizes, such as snowmobiles or a truck. “Nobody seemed to complain about it,” Findley said. “Everybody comes in for the sport and the prize money and the raffle is a bonus.” The Granby Chamber of Commerce cut back on top-winning prizes this year due to financial hardships at the chamber.
Findley said she went out onto the ice on Saturday and learned that many contestants are people who return to the contest year after year. “It was enjoyed by all,” she said.
First place anglers won $600 per day, second place angler prize was $300 and third place was $150. The Grand Slam contest awarded $750 for first place, $350 for second and $175 for third.
In the raffle contest, the first place winner Brian Baca of Northglenn won the $1,000 cash prize.
