The Triple DHip downhill bike race will take place at Granby Ranch on Saturday and Sunday, July 14-15.
This race is a 3G-formatted mountain bike stage race with two races taking place Saturday and the last race taking place Sunday, followed by an awards ceremony.
The first race will take place Saturday at 11 a.m. on the double black diamond "Cougar" trail.
The second race in the set of three will be held at 2:30 p.m. and will be the Avid Chainless Challenge where riders will remove the chain from their bikes and coast down the double black diamond rated "Stranger" trail.
The third and final race will be held on Sunday at noon on the blue "Cheese-It" trail and will be followed by an awards ceremony at approximately 2 p.m.
Some of these trails are pro-level and there are some technical features on them, according to Dan O'Connell, bike park manager at Granby Ranch.
The race will be judged by comparing the cumulative time from all three races to determine a winner.
The purse for the race is $2,000 with an estimated $800 prize being awarded to the first place winner.
Granby Ranch is hoping this event will give them a chance to show off the five miles of new trail added this year, O'Connell said.
Because Granby Ranch is on private property, it has the chance to expand into new territory and to have that territory open earlier and later in the season, O'Connell said.
"I like to call this new territory 'dreamy singletrack,'" O'Connell said.
The focus for the new trails and many of existing trails is to create "family gravity trails," O'Connell said. Something that is fun and is doable for all levels of riders.
Granby Ranch also offers "lift served cross-country," O'Connell said.
"You can pay five bucks and hop on the lift to access all of our cross-country trails and you don't have to climb in the morning," O'Connell said. "Then if you want to ride down and grab some lunch, another five bucks gets you back up to the trails."
"This just makes our cross-country trail system more accessible," O'Connell said.
Registration for the Triple DHip began Thursday, July 12, and continues until race day Saturday.
