The Fraser Board of Trustees visited a number of topics during the Oct. 17, regular meeting including: An update from Grand Beginnings, a public hearing concerning the relocation of Bottle Pass Liquors, and a resolution for an off-premise sign for Colorado Adventure Park.
Trustees approved the relocation of Bottle Pass Liquors from the Alco shopping center to a store front in the Safeway shopping center.
The store plans to be open for business in time for the holidays.
A resolution was also passed for an off-premise sign for Colorado Adventure Park.
The sign will be located on property that is owned by Clark Lipscomb, who is also the owner of Colorado Adventure Park, before the train tracks in Fraser on the way to the park.
Grand Beginnings gave an update to the Fraser board of trustees, a donor to the local non-profit organization, which collaborates between parents, teachers, and services to improve the lives of young children in Grand County.
The update focused on the progress of the organization in successfully facilitating healthy childhood development in Grand County.
Grand Beginnings recently received a three year $432,000 grant from the Colorado Health Foundation. A total of $150,000 of the grant will be used in Grand County to educate parents and early childhood teachers about social emotional development for young children. The remainder of the grant will be used regionally.
Using the grant, Grand Beginnings will offer free training for parents and one-on-one training for local early childhood teachers to coach them on positive interactions with young children in high quality environments, according to Sheryl Shushan, executive director of Grand Beginnings.
The town of Fraser provided $4,500 to Grand Beginnings last year, according to Town Manager Jeff Durbin.
The money was used by the organization to help fund the Qualistar rating program, which is a voluntary rating improvement process in Colorado for early childhood care centers.
