Ski Granby Ranch, formerly SolVista Basin, is set to open on Wednesday, Dec. 12, that's 12/12/12, an easy date to remember, boasting some new terrain as well as some new opportunities for fun.
For their opening day celebration the resort will be offering $12 lift tickets to those dressed in their favorite costumes, $12 pizza, $12 burgers and beer, and $12 off a $50 purchase at their retail store.
The resort will be opening with top to bottom skiing on Easy Money, serviced by the Quick Draw Express and will have the Milestone lift servicing the bunny hill.
Thanks to some hard work by the snow making crews at the resort, a nice base on some of the high traffic areas is set and ready for more snow to start falling on top of it.
Due to cutting of beetle-killed trees at the resort, new black/expert ski trails will be found on the West Mountain including: Spyder's Web, North Park, Bounty Hunter, and Dean's Glade. Another trail that currently remains unnamed is located to the skier's left of Sky Diver and drops into Dean's Glade.
With the West Mountain's north/northeast exposure, these new runs are intended to keep a nice stash of snow that will stay in good condition all season.
This season Ski Granby Ranch will also sport some new terrain park features that are all serviced by their high-speed quad lift.
Some of their terrain parks are tucked into the trees where they utilize features made from recycled materials like beetle-killed trees, water tanks, barrels, and spools.
Also new this season the resort plans to extend night skiing and tubing opportunities by opening the resort on Friday as well as Saturday from 5-8 p.m.
They also stocked a new lineup of rental snowboards for this season to added to their fleet of available rental gear.
The resort is also augmenting its arsenal this season with seven new energy-efficient snowguns to help make snow where they need it the most.
Things to look forward to at Ski Granby Ranch are the Grand County Food Drive where individuals can receive a free lift ticket by bringing a bag of non perishable food to the resort's ticket office.
Santa Claus will also be making an appearance on the slopes this year from Dec. 22-24 to make laps with the kids as well as a winter wonderland where the resort will be decked out in holiday decorations with gingerbread men and carolers all close at hand.
During their winter wonderland celebration, going on Dec. 26-30, families can take an old-fashioned wagon ride followed by night skiing and tubing. Tickets for the tubing hill during the celebration are $14, or you can combine tubing and night skiing for $24.
The resort will also be hosting a News Year's Eve celebration with a torchlight parade, starting at 5:30 p.m., and fireworks display followed by a party where the local bluegrass band Hunker Down will be playing dancing music to usher in the new year. The party will start at 6:30 p.m.
More events are scheduled for later on in the season including multiple rail-jams and a slopestyle competition.
