Obituary: Agnew

Richard Lee Agnew 87, was born Dec. 7, 1924, in Denver, to Olive Mann and Kenneth Smith Agnew of Sidney, Neb., and passed away in his home in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., on October 20, after a long bout with COPD and congestive heart failure.

With his wife Pat, he owned and operated The Frontier Motel in Granby from 1986-1996 and was active in community activities. He worked to found the Granby Rotary Club, having been a founder and past president of the Commerce City Rotary Club.

He was graduated from Sidney High School in 1942, and served in the U.S. Infantry Quartermaster Corp from 1943-1946 in Europe and the Pacific, and again from 1950-1951, at Fort Still, OK.

In 1949 he received his MBA from the University of Nebraska and began his career in banking in Center. In 1954 he became vice president of the Metropolitan State Bank in Commerce City, serving until he retired in 1980. He was dedicated to independent banking and served as president of the Denver Suburban Clearing House Association and the Colorado Consumer Credit Bankers Association. He was a former member of Masonic Lodge, Colorado Consistory, and El Jebel Shrine Temple, Denver.

He is survived by his wife Pat; daughters Charlotte Agnew (Jim Clohessy), Patricia Jean Al-Abssi, Julia Elbaum; grandchildren Nisrine, Ali, Nareman, Adel, Isam, Emma, and Lily; brother Kenneth; Sister Kathleen Bauder; brother-in-law Charles Peck; nieces Heather and Holly Peck, Wendy Farjami, and Jean Ellen Spencer.
