During the holidays, the post office is busy sending packages containing gifts and greetings and sorting through the incoming mail with much the same.
For those of us who don't complete our holiday shopping and shipping ahead of time, here is a breakdown on the last dates you can send holiday packages to make sure they arrive in time to be under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning.
For first class mail, Dec. 20 is the last day you can send packages anywhere in the U.S. to have them there by Dec. 24.
Priority mail needs to shipped by Dec. 21.
Express mail will be delivered anywhere in the U.S. by Dec. 24 if packages are shipped by Dec. 22.
Parcel post will reach its destination by Christmas eve if it is shipped out by Dec. 14.
Most post offices have shipping supplies in both regular and holiday fashion with padded envelopes and boxes that feature holiday themes and decorations.
For those ordering items online and expecting to receive mail at the local post office, make sure you include your P.O. box number when ordering, even if you have a physical address.
