YMCA Classic race this Saturday The Annual YMCA Classic race is the Saturday at Snow Mountain Ranch with registration until 9 a.m. The free 2 km kids race starts about 9 a.m. Interval starts of two racers every 30 seconds begin at 10 a.m. for the 15 km and 7.5 km races. Visit the YMCA website www.ymcarockies.org/smrnordicraces to sign up or call 970-887-2152 X4173.YMCA also offers a free waxing clinic every Saturday morning 930 a.m.-1030 a.m. until the end of March except race days. Come dissolve the mysteries of waxing.Grand Nordic Free Lessons In conjunction with the University of Wyoming coaches and ski team, Grand Nordic offers free lessons to everyone this Sunday Jan. 6 at the YMCA. Registration is from 830 a.m. - 930 a.m. for the morning lessons with Grand Nordic instructors starting at 10 a.m and from noon - 1 p.m. for the afternoon lesson with both Grand Nordic and Univ. of Wyoming coaches and skiers. Lessons are offered for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels of both Classic and Skate with kids classes in beginner, classic and skate. Call the Y Nordic Center to reserve your spot as class size is limited. Grand Nordic members also receive free equipment and trail pass. Call 970-887-3095 X 4173 to sign up or for more information.Sunday, Jan. 13, join us at Grand Lake Nordic Center for free lessons at another Grand County Nordic area. This is a great opportunity to try different locations and keep learning new skills. Or try skating when you have only done classic technique before. Classes are at 10 a.m. and 1p.m. and those people needing equipment must sign up in advance with the Nordic Center at 970-627-8008 since equipment is more limited. Individual rate is 25.00 and families are only 35.00.Free kids programsThe Friday Fun Kid's Cross-Country Ski Program at Devil's Thumb Ranch. Starting Jan. 4 the program at Devil's Thumb Ranch is on Fridays 10-11:30 a.m. and runs through March 1. Ski, play on skis, have fun with skis. Hot cocoa to follow in the Broken Axe Barn. Age: 2-12; most of the kids are 2-6 years old. Fee: $20 for the entire 10 weeks ($2 per week) to cover hot chocolate. Equipment rental, instruction and trail pass are provided by Devil's Thumb Ranch. Meet outside the Broken Axe Barn on the entry to the trail system. Those who need to check out equipment will want to be at the rental counter before 10:00 a.m. Questions: contact Devils Thumb Activities Center 970-726-8231. The YMCA/Snow Mtn Ranch Kids Nordic Ski Program The YMCA Kids program offers ski instruction for beginners and more accomplished skiers ages 5-15, skiing games, winter nature activities, and ends with a Nordic Ski Festival the last Friday. The program operates Jan. 11 through Feb. 24 on both Friday and Sunday from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. The Friday program gives more progressive lessons. Equipment and trail pass are provided. The lessons include instruction, the trail pass fee and equipment rentals. This years dates are Friday Jan. 11, Jan. 18 , and Feb. 1, for ages 16 and under from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Lessons, trail pass & rentals are free but pre-registration is required by calling 970-627-8008.
