GRAND LAKE - A 43-year-old Grand Lake woman shed her clothes and was yelling in the street early Wednesday morning in freezing January temperatures.
The woman had been "beating on windows and ripping down signs" around 6 a.m., according to Sunset Motel innkeeper Kim Mullinex, who awoke to the disturbance.
A few motorists on Grand Avenue were even flagged down by the woman, including Diana Losier who was on her way to work. She and her two young boys in the back seat of the car witnessed the woman, who at the time had her shirt off and was "yelling incoherently"; she was screaming "Get me to the lake," Losier said.
Later the woman was totally naked, waving her arms, and at times, lying down in the street. "I was worried the woman was going to freeze to death," Mullinex said.
Responders got to the scene later than Mullinex said she thought reasonable. Grand County Sheriff Rod Johnson said there had not been an officer in a vehicle at the time of the call at 6:24 a.m. Even so, law enforcement arrived within one-half hour, he said.
The deranged woman, who witnesses said cried out she thought responders were going to kill her, was not charged with a crime, but was taken to the Middle Park Medical Center in Granby for physical and mental evaluation, Johnson said. Authorities are withholding the woman's name.
