Loberg: Guns, pills debate is apples, oranges

To the Editor:

As I have been reading all the letters lately about how pills are more

dangerous than guns, one question keeps coming to mind: Can a person kill

20 school children with a bottle of prescription pills?

Accidental deaths and suicides may happen at an alarming rate with pills,

and that is absolutely tragic and should be addressed. But when was the

last time a crazy mass murderer, determined to commit suicide anyway, walked

into a school, or a shopping mall, or a law office, or anywhere, and forced

20 children to swallow pills to kill them? Never.

Comparing pills and guns is like comparing apples and oranges. Regulating

pills can keep people from harming themselves. Regulating guns can keep

people from harming others. There is nothing else to argue.
