Letter to the Editor: 'Kremtucky' mocking went too far

To the Editor:

Last week Kremmling hosted the annual rivalry basketball game between Middle Park and West Grand, usually a friendly game between the two high schools in the county.

This year, in my opinion, Middle Park fans took it a little too far. Some students and parents came to the game dressed in what they called, "Modern day Kremtucky attire," which was: overalls, no shirts, and cowboy hats (quote and photo posted on Facebook). Hence, insinuating that here in Kremmling we dress in such outfits and are an uncivilized community. This isn't the first time I've heard us referred to as "Kremtucky," but it is the first public mockery of our community that I have witnessed.

For the past two years, I have represented Middle Park High School in the CHSAA XC-Country High School Championships and have been proud to say so. After this incident, however, I feel offended, insulted, and most of all, hurt by a community that I though embraced me. I am a third-generation rancher and am delighted to be one. I have never been ashamed of my heritage nor ever will be.

So next time you sit down to a meal that consists of beef, remember that it comes from this ENTIRE county. Shame on those of you who tried to make a laughing stock out of Kremmling resident's heritage and our way of life.
