My heart went out to Lu Baird and Crystal Hart [while reading the Feb. 6 letter about] the German shepherd that got hit by a car and expired.
To assume without facts the driver was drunk was not the noble act to take.
My husband and I relocated to Grand Lake in December 2012. We both love Granby, Grand Lake and the community. What is appalling to me is the fact that people allow their dogs to run loose. This being said, the owners of the German shepherd who got hit by the car and died should be ashamed of themselves.
Animals cannot fend for themselves, they do not have a voice and people in the area and community should be more responsible and not allow their dogs to run freely. They can get hit by a car, freeze to death and get lost. People need to be responsible.
I see many dogs left in vehicles in the winter and I pray that I do not see this in the summertime because the heat in a vehicle increases three times the [air temperature] and a dog can die.
Again, I implore residents of any community to have some common sense and be responsible for their pets. We walk and keep our dogs on a leash at all times despite not living in the city - there is absolutely no excuse.
God bless the poor innocent German shepherd and shame on the owners for not being responsible, unless the dog got loose on its own.
I applaud Lu Baird and Crystal Hart for pleading to pet owners to be cautious when they let their pets outdoors.
