Thursday prep roundup: state wrestling and basketball playoffs

The first round of the Colorado State High School Wrestling Championships on Thursday, Feb. 20, saw one local wrestler advance and two move into the consolation bracket.

Middle Park’s Adam Visconti pinned Sam Raphael of The Classical Academy in 1:51 in their first round bout at 152 pounds in Class 3A. Visconti will wrestle Nate Henry of Alamosa in the quarterfinals Friday morning.

West Grand’s Travis Etler lost to Jimmy Horalek of Sedgwick County 7-6 in their first round match at 195 pounds in Class 2A. Etler will wrestle Nicholas Belcher of Hanover in the consolation bracket later Friday morning.

Middle Park’s Justin Halley lost to Francisco Ibarra of Jefferson 4-1 in the first round at 285 pounds in Class 3A. Halley will wrestle Dorian Richard of Valley in the consolation bracket Friday morning.

Girls Basketball

Middle Park defeated Jefferson 43-24 on Thursday evening in Granby to advance in the Frontier League district playoffs. The Lady Panthers will take on The Academy on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Westminster.

Boys Basketball

Middle Park lost to Clear Creek 59-45 on Thursday in Evergreen in the Frontier League district playoffs. The loss ends the Panthers’ season.
