Baby born at Middle Park Medical Center

GRANBY – Middle Park Medical Center announces the birth of Ada Rane Frank, born at Middle Park Medical Center in Granby earlier this month.

Melissa Riley and Travis Frank, of Granby, welcomed their daughter at 3:49 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, following an emergency delivery at their local hospital. Ada Rane was 18.5 inches long and weighed 5 pounds, 1 ounce.

Melissa expected to deliver in Steamboat Springs with Diane Petersen, M.D., who is a visiting specialist at Middle Park Medical, providing obstetrics and gynecological services. But when Melissa went into labor a couple of weeks early, with a baby girl who was in a hurry to join the world, emergency staff advised her it was best to head to the hospital in Granby. Ada Rane was born about two hours after Grand County Emergency Medical Service transported Melissa to the hospital.

“It was a crazy, crazy night,” Melissa said.

Melissa was able to have a safe, healthy delivery close to home.

“As an emergency department, we train and are prepared for emergent obstetric care,” said Greg Gutierrez, M.D., who delivered Ada. “Though we strive together with our obstetrical colleagues to have mothers deliver in a hospital with an obstetrics department, we have to be ready for the unplanned delivery that takes place in this county. During this situation, extra staff was called in and all our talents were pooled to provide the best care. Our preparedness was evident with the good outcomes we had with Melissa and Ada.”

The emergency department at Middle Park Medical Center is a fully functioning facility available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The familiar faces with Grand County EMS and Middle Park Medical Center helped Travis to feel comfortable and at ease during the birth of his first child. “In this little community, everyone knows everyone, so it helped me to be less stressed,” Travis said.

Melissa and Ada returned home after several days at Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat Springs and are both doing well.

Dr. Gutierrez encourages expectant families to create a detailed plan for transportation by at least one month before the estimated due date. In the creation of that plan, families can count on Middle Park Medical Center for emergency care if needed.
