Davis announces candidacy for District 3 commissioner

Grand County resident for 34 years, George Davis of Hot Sulphur Springs is running for District 3 Grand County Commissioner.

Davis owns and operates Maple Street Builders, Inc., which just celebrated its 25th year. He and his wife Shawn have raised two children, who both graduated from Middle Park High School. A Hot Sulphur Springs board member and former mayor, former Hot Sulphur Springs/ Parshall Fire District fire Chief, and volunteer firefighter for 32 years, Davis feels he is an “excellent candidate” for his past and continued leadership in the county. He presently serves on the Grand County board of adjustments as well as Hot Sulphur Springs board of adjustments. He also serves on the boards of the Business Economic Development Association, the Grand County Builder’s Association, and the Headwaters Trail Alliance. Habitat for Humanity is “a cause close to my heart, and I donate my time, along with my building crew’s time, to build local Habitat homes,” Davis states in his candidacy announcement letter.

Davis says he enjoys “all the splendors that Grand County has to offer” as a hunter, avid bicyclist, and part-time ski instructor at Winter Park Resort.

“Since my own business and clients were impacted by the recent financial difficulties in the Grand County Building Department, I would like to emphasize fiscal responsibility and accountability within our county government,” Davis states in his letter. “The commissioners are the stewards of the county monies, natural and structural assets, and should represent the needs of all county residents.

“ I am also a strong advocate for supporting small business, increasing jobs and economic development and encouraging continued but responsible growth to take Grand County to the future,” Davis writes.

“Government cooperation is a necessity and needs to foster a feeling of ‘community’ throughout the county. As your county commissioner, I would serve with honesty, integrity, diligence and a perserverence to make Grand County the best it can be. Thank you for your support.”
