Letter: Hospital district vows to do better in transparency

To the Editor:

The Sky-Hi News recently evaluated Kremmling Memorial Hospital District, doing business as Middle Park Medical Center, on our transparency to the public and assigned us a grade in its March 28 story, “Sunshine Project shines light on districts transparency.”

I want to thank the Sky-Hi for raising awareness about transparency in government and special district entities and encouraging members of the public to be informed about the decisions made for their community.

I see this project as an opportunity to identify areas for growth and improvement within our organization. Middle Park Medical Center administration and the hospital district board of directors strive to be transparent and understand to what information the community wants access. We are working to improve transparency in both what and how we communicate.

Recent records requests from local media are motivating us to improve our internal processes and develop policies in regards to the Colorado Open Records Act. We recognize and welcome this opportunity for improvement.

The MPMC staff feels privileged to serve the Grand, Summit and Jackson county communities every day through high-quality health care. It is not a responsibility we take lightly, and we want to be as open as possible in that work.

As we work to improve, I invite the community to contact me with any questions or feedback at the office at 970-724-3149, or on my cell phone at 970-846-0957. MPMC public information officer Michelle Balleck can be reached on her cell phone at 970-629-3914.

I would like to challenge the Sky-Hi to re-evaluate our transparency in six months to gauge our effectiveness in making the necessary changes to fully serve our patients and our community.
