This Friday, young children in Grand County will get their day in the spotlight at the annual Children’s Fair.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Hosted by Grand Beginnings, the local nonprofit invites all community children ages birth to 8 and their families to this free event, taking place at Granby Elementary School. As an established event, this year’s celebration is gearing up to be the best yet, with tons of activities all aligned with the theme of Healthy Living. Activities include a giant inflatable slide and obstacle course, crafts, Funsical Fitness interactive performances, healthy snacks, games and prizes, face painting, interactive safety displays, a book giveaway, parenting resources, and even a free bike raffle. Car seat safety checks will be provided by Grand County EMS, with free car seats available to anyone needing a brand new, safer car seat.
In addition, participants from this year’s Kid’s Art Contest will be recognized at an awards ceremony, where winners who submitted artwork portraying ‘Healthy Living’, will win passes generously donated by Fraser Valley Recreation District and YMCA of the Rockies Snow Mountain Ranch. There is sure to be something healthy, fun, and exciting for everyone in the family.
Now taking place for the 13th year in a row, this event is a moment to commemorate April, the ‘month of the young child’. To celebrate this month is an act of recognition that, these days, we know more than ever before about the importance of children’s earliest years in shaping their learning, development, and future success in life.
The theme of this year’s celebration is ‘Healthy Living’. Intentionally broad, this theme comprises the many elements that combine to ensure wellbeing and health throughout life: eating, exercising, and sleeping habits as well as the environment, social-emotional supports, and community systems in place to support a healthy lifestyle. Because so many factors must be present to ensure that children lead healthy, productive lives, childhood wellbeing is truly a community issue, not just a parent issue.
Such an event, however, is only made possible through the kind support of the community. Dozens of local organizations have committed to donating time and materials, all for the sake of strengthening connections with local children and families who may benefit from the information and services they have to offer. This year, the event is graciously sponsored by several entities in the community, where a special thanks goes to the Grand County Government, the Town of Fraser and Winter Park, Ear to Ear Photobooths, East Grand School District, and the Fraser Valley Lion’s Club.
This event is a celebration of young children as well as a testament to the priorities of our community, which increasingly recognizes that investing in our youngest is essential to the success of our future society.
