1. Experience: I have 20 years leadership/management experience, I’m locally invested in the community, I am familiar with Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District through heavy use of the programs and facilities (i.e. I golf at Pole Creek, my family and I use the recreation center, I sponsor softball and hockey teams, my sons are in many Rec. District programs). After many years of enjoying the benefits of the District, I would like to serve on the board as a way of giving back.

2. Change: I don’t have a pre-set agenda, but what I hear from a wide section of the community at this time is the desire to have year-round (or extended) operations at the skating rink. This would make the most use of our investment and would prevent many families from having to travel to Breckenridge and Denver early and late season for hockey. My family has used the Bullfrog translator until recently and I want to make sure the District doesn’t underestimate the number of local users while determining its fate. I look forward to the possibility of assisting in the fiscally responsible manner in which the whole Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District runs.

1. Experience: Over the last 20 years, I have experienced the influence of tourism and second home owners on my business, our community and our Rec. District. As a local business owner, I understand the importance of budgeting and strategic planning to the long-term success of an organization. This personal knowledge will be essential to guiding our Rec. District through strategic initiatives and growth.

I believe that the Rec District is an essential element to our community’s success; it has the ability to bring us together, stimulate personal growth of our youth, and add to the many attractions of our area. As an active member of our community, my family has participated in countless Rec-sponsored events over the years, as avid golfers my wife Cindy and we look forward to each summer at Pole Creek. The benefit of these experiences will allow me to help affect change.

2. Change: In my term, I would like to see strategic initiatives implemented that are targeted to increase the visibility and use of our facilities, engage our citizens to become involved, and attract visitors from outside our district to come and enjoy where we live. Growth of Rec. Center useage, rounds of golf at Pole Creek and Ball field programs is a large opportunity for our community, an opportunity that I would like to maximize.

Our Rec. District is comprised of world class facilities; I believe that we have a responsibility to maximize these assets to the benefit of our community. I will help guide our board to develop an environment that stimulates and facilitates growth, fiscal responsibility, and user delight to ensure that these essential facilities and programs are here for the next generation.

David Jens Peterson

Town: Tabernash

Running for Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District Board

Occupation: Small business Owner

Education: BA Recreation Administration Program Management, University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana

Number of years in Grand County: 24 years

Original hometown: Madison,Wisconsin

Family: Wife- Amy, Daughter-Robin, Sons-Corte and Chase

Pets: 2 dogs, 2 cats 3 salamanders

1. Experience: I have been a part of the Rec. District for almost as long as I have lived here. In 1985, I worked at Pole Creek Golf Club in the maintenance department taking care of the golf course and in the afternoons going over to the baseball fields to take prep them for upcoming games. In 1988, I was the tennis instructor for the youth tennis program. Over the last 10 years, I have volunteered for many programs the Rec. District offers. I feel I have great insight into how programs are run. I have met and worked with many of the personnel the district employs and feel I could be a good sounding board to help them accomplish their goals for the community without bias.

2. Change: To be honest, I think there are things that could be addressed and looked at, but really I don’t have an agenda or platform I want to see get done (as in needs to be fixed tomorrow, that kind of thing). This a great time in the District’s history to be a part of. I want to help the effort as we move forward.
