How did you get started in this business?: Quite by accident. We originally purchased the house to be a long term rental, but after all the hard work we put into the remodel we wanted to share it with more than one or two renters.

Success in the mission: From the reviews we have received, we have been successful in our mission thus far but there is always room for improvement.
Challenges to the mission: Relax can mean different things to different people.
How do you cope with Grand County’s seasonal surges?: During slow times we make repairs and upgrade/improvements.
What do you think is the biggest business barrier in Grand County?: No courage. Excuses will get you nowhere. Just go for it! Fear of failure is foremost.
What can government here do to help?: Keep taxes down. We are in a good location because Parshall is unincorporated.
Give examples of how you are environmentally responsible: We have a recycle basket in the kitchen. Everyone uses it!
How do you support other local businesses?: Even though we have a fully equipped kitchen, we encourage our guests to try the local restaurants.
How do you feel about direct competition?: It is nice to have other lodging partners to refer our guest to if we are booked.
What business products or services do you get outside of Grand County?: None. We hire locals.
How do you market yourself?: Website, Chambers, FlipKey, Facebook, Fishing Networks, word of mouth.
What’s the main thing you have you learned in your years in business?: There are a lot of really nice, appreciative people out there.
Where do you go for help when you need it?: Family and friends.
Who is your biggest business influence/mentor?: All of the other small businesses in Grand County who are happy they entered into their business even if they aren’t rolling in the dough.
What do you think is the most significant economic driver in Grand County?: Tourism
If you could go back in time and start up your business venture all over again, what would you do differently?: Nothing
What’s the best compliment you received from a client/customer/guest?: More than once, our guests have called us “a diamond in the rough”.
What do you consider to be your biggest mistake in business?: Not starting this business when we were younger.

How much of a role does technology play in your business?: A huge role. Most of our guests find us through the internet.
What are the technology challenges in your business?: Affordable wi-fi.
What’s the general key to making a customer/client/guest happy?: Being organized, honest and homemade chocolate chip cookies.
If you could give advice to a novice entrepreneur, what would it be?: Learn all you can about running a business. Learn about YOUR business. Seek out local help when you need it.
