New Fraser art studio offers classes, events

White. It’s the pervasive and, after a few long months, stiflingly bland shade of winter.

So why not add a little color to it this year?

A Fraser-based business now provides the tools, expertise and environment to channel your inner artisan with a variety of art projects and events.

“It’s really about making art with your friends or someone that you go with, your family or you can even come by yourself, and it’s a step by step process,” said Katrina Larson, co-owner of Studio 564.

Studio 564’s Fraser facility offers a creative space for a range of art projects from painting to pottery and even basket making, Larson said.

Larson provides the space and materials for classes, and customers furnish the creativity. The concept is experiential.

“It’s a step by step where I’ll show you how to do it first, and then you do it,” Larson said. “It’s for people who may not have a lot of experience doing art but want to do something different. They may not always want to go skiing or something like that, so they can do an art project.”

Studio 564 also offers a unique concept called “cupcakes and canvas,” a kid-friendly spinoff of “cocktails and canvas” events.

You provide the kids, the businesses provides the art supplies and cupcakes.

Co-owner Nowell Curran came up with the concept after visiting a cocktails and canvas event in Denver.

“We had a lot of fun, so that’s where the idea came up that we needed to have something like this in Grand County,” Curran said.

Curran partnered with Larson and “cupcakes and canvas” was born. The first party was a hit, Curran said.

“It was really well received, and not only were the kids participating in it, but we had extra canvasses so the adults were participating as well,” she said.

Studio 564 hosts parties from birthday from bachelorette, art classes and can even come to you.
