Songwriters in the Round in Grand Lake
June 16, 2016
Do you ever wonder about the original meaning of a song or want to know the background of a popular song on the radio?
Here is your chance to meet songwriters face-to-face and learn what they meant when they wrote their songs.
Anna Wilson and her producer/songwriter husband, Monty Powell, will join Peggy Mann on June 24 in Grand Lake for Songwriters in the Round.

This type of performance has become popular in Nashville at Bluebird Café.
"If you watch Nashville, the TV show, you will know what it's like," Wilson said. "It highlights the songwriters. The people who are writing the hits songs for the artists get a platform to highlight their songs and tell the story behind it – how it came about."

Mann, Powell and Wilson have performed this type of show many times. Many songwriters are doing this as a way to have a performance outlet.
"We like to call it living room style acoustic. We all sit on stage together and take turns singing and when it makes sense we will play harmony and banter across the stage," said Wilson.
"It is great to do these songs because they were on the radio and people know them. We get to play them how we envisioned them not what was on the radio," said Powell"
The event is the opposite of being at a concert.
"For a songwriter to do their material and know that people are listening and paying attention is really special," Powell said.
"I want to tell the story of the song. Why I wrote it and why I want to sing it," Wilson, said. "I want people to experience the song and to have the connection to the audience, so they can have their own experience and find what is important to them."
Since 2008 the couple spends a week at C Lazy U Ranch. They hold week-long songwriting clinics and have performances for ranch guests. Some guest book their vacation knowing that the clinics are offered, said Wilson. Other guests join as an add-on. It is through this event that they met Peggy Mann and began to collaborate with her including Powell producing a record with Mann this year.

"With each performance we take something different from our song; we re-experience our creation in a different way. Each show shines a different light and it's a beautiful take away," said Wilson.
Since these events are in small venues the songwriters typically hang out after the show and talk to audience members.
Mann, Powell and Wilson will be taking pictures, signing CDs and telling more stories after the event.
"That is what song writing is all about – sharing it with others," said Wilson.
At the event the musicians will have CDs for sale.
