Navigating the health insurance exchange

The Connect for Health Colorado insurance marketplace went live on Oct. 1, receiving 34,500 unique visitors in its first three hours. This user overload caused some errors and glitches, which have since been remedied. But the marketplace, which is the state’s answer to the federal Affordable Care Act, continues to cause some local confusion. Sky-Hi News has collected the following information to help Grand County residents navigate the new exchange:

•To get started, search for and purchase health insurance through the new marketplace, visit www.connectforhealthco.com.

•To access the Connect for Health Colorado without a computer and Internet, call 1-855-PLANS4YOU.

•For local help in selecting health insurance, or for questions about the new insurance marketplace, Grand County Rural Health Network has two trained health coverage guides, Kyle Gateley and Kim Long. Email them at kgateley@co.grand.co.us and klong@co.grand.co.us, or call them at 970-725-3477.

Grand County Rural Health Network will be holding three community information sessions about Connect for Health Colorado’s insurance marketplace. Those sessions will be held:

•At 1 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the Fraser Valley Library

•At 9 a.m. on Oct. 16 at the Granby Library

•At 6 p.m. on Oct. 21 at the Hot Sulphur Springs Library

In addition, the health coverage guides will hold regular weekly outreach hours at towns throughout Grand County beginning Oct. 7:

•Mondays from 3-7 p.m. at the Granby Library

•Tuesdays from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Fraser Library

•Wednesdays from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Grand Lake Library
