KREMMLING — The improvements to Highway 9, designed to improve safety along the highway linking Summit County to Grand County, were presented to community members during a Thursday, Nov. 7, informational meeting at the Kremmling Chamber of Commerce.
At the meeting, the expected timeline of the project was presented as was the expected impacts to drivers on the road during the construction time frame.
Currently the Colorado Department of Transportation, or CDOT, has an anticipated start time of January of 2014, where they will begin the right of way acquisition process of the property next to the road. CDOT will acquire enough land to allow for the widening of the roadway as well as enough room to place the 8-foot high wildlife fencing.
CDOT anticipates installation of culverts and work on utility lines along the highway to start in August of next year. CDOT will not undergo construction during the winter months, comprised of November through April, and will start construction on the highway in May of 2015. CDOT anticipates a completion time of the project for the end of 2016.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be $46 million, with financial support from Grand and Summit Counties, Kremmling, Silverthorne, local businesses, private individuals, Blue Valley Ranch, and CDOT.
During construction times, road users should expect to be driving on portions of unpaved road with reduced speeds as well as lane closures and periodic traffic stops. Twenty minute delays will be possible during construction periods, however stops during commuting hours will be avoided.
