I am in unincorporated Fraser so was unable to vote but followed the issue.
Following the annexation defeat, Clark Lipscomb, president of Byers Peak Properties LLC., was quoted in this paper as saying, “We will be moving full speed ahead” with the Byers Peak plans to develop in the county. I have to ask, “What is the hurry?” The commercial site at Grand Park is supposed to have a hotel, commercial spaces and condos, some proposals similar to the Byers Peak project. Yet Fraser Valley residents have endured looking at disturbed ground and huge gravel piles at this project site for longer than six years. Why not finish one development before disturbing ground for another project estimated to take 35 years to complete? Scenery is one of the valley’s commercial assets. Long-term site disruption is a detriment. It seems that Mr. Lipscomb’s professed speed is in retaliation to the negative vote. Other events in the valley suggest that his modus operandi might be to retaliate against businesses or entities that don’t embrace his agenda. Maybe voters were doubtful about trusting him with another development.
