This Thanksgiving is the 16th season of Dinners at the Cranmer Memorial Chapel in Winter Park.
The meals are available to seasonal workers and other citizens having a difficult time stretching paychecks to meet food budgets. Last year, Friday Night Dinners served a meal to the 20,000th recipient since the meal program’s inception.
The dates for meals at the Cramner Chapel this season are: Dec. 13 and 27; Jan. 10 and 24; Feb. 7 and 21; March 21; and April 4. Service starts at 4:45 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m. These Fridays are opposite payday dates of Winter Park Resort, the area’s largest employer.
“Our diners are extremely grateful for the meals, particularly at this time of year when full-time work is often not available,” said Jim Magill of the Friday Night Dinners.
. Organizers look forward to sharing food and fellowship with all who come to enjoy the meals, he said. It takes a great number of people to make this happen, including: Church of Eternal Hills, Fraser Valley Lions Club, Lady of the Snow Roman Catholic Church, Lord of the Valley Lutheran Church, Advocates, Mountain Family Center and Winter Park Christian Church. Each of these organizations host and serve the meals and provide the side dishes and desserts. Grand County Jewish Community, Winter Park Resort and YMCA of the Rockies each serve and provide the entire meal. The churches donate monetary gifts to help pay for the main course and supplies; St. John Episcopal Church provides and cooks the main course. And last year, the program received a generous grant from the Fraser Valley Lions Club. Meals are also delivered to shut-ins. Some of these wonderful meals consist of baked chicken with wild rice; Ham with mashed potatoes; rigatoni with salad; meatloaf with potatoes; roast pork dinner; and corned beef dinner.
If you would like a meal delivered ,call Jim Magill. If you would like to donate to this program, please send a check to St. John’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 947, Granby, CO., 80446 and memo it: Cranmer Dinners.
The door is open to all, so come and join the camaraderie either by helping or enjoying a great meal.
