Rocky Mountain National Park makes National Geographic’s ‘Best Trips’ list

GRAND LAKE — National Geographic Traveler is calling Rocky Mountain National Park one of the world’s “must-see” destinations for 2014.

The publication compiled a list of areas it’s calling “authentic, culturally rich, (and) sustainably minded,” according to an article it released on Nov. 21. The list includes 20 locales and one reader’s choice, ranging from the wild, like Guyana in South America, to the rugged, like Northern Territory in Australia. Rocky Mountain National Park, New Orleans, and Canada’s Nahanni National Park were the only destinations in North America to make the tick list.

“Our annual Best of the World list doesn’t reflect hot spots drawn from celebrity sightings or travel statistics,” Keith Bellows, editor in chief of National Geographic Traveler magazine, said in a press release. “It reflects the expertise and experience of National Geographic Travel’s huge network of global travel experts. If you want to explore places worth visiting now, this is a great place to start.”

The magazine calls Rocky Mountain National Park “a natural overachiever, with 77 mountains above 12,000 feet.” To read the full list, visit the National Geographic Traveler website or pick up the December 2013/January 2014 issue of National Geographic Traveler magazine.
