40 Tons & 40 volunteers!
Ryan Summerlin October 10, 2012
During a recent weekend, 40 tons of finish materials, furnishings, and fuel were flown to the Broome Hut.Grand Huts worked with R R Conner Aviation and Winter Park Resort to stage and deliver the materials. All of the parts and pieces have been stored in a barn donated by Rendezvous & Terry Stanford. Ace Hardware loaned us boxes to hold and transport materials. One box held new cookware donated by Epicurean Catering, and books from the Grand County Library District and Friends of the Library. Gary Droll loaned his Big Tex flatbed for moving loads. M3 Property Services coordinated the shuffle.Forty volunteers were on site over the course of the weekend; sorting and moving materials into the hut and out of the weather. Perfect timing with snow that Tuesday. Of these volunteers, 24 were up on Sunday. Their hard work was rewarded by a delicious jambalaya casserole from Fontenot’s and the ever-present baked goods from Carvers. Now the push is on to finish the interior. Volunteers have been, and will continue to be, a driving force in the completion of this outstanding, community based project. Come on up and lend a hand.
