The town of Fraser and Community Builders hosted Downtown Strategic Plan Design Workshops on October 19 and 20 at the Fraser Town Hall.

The workshops allowed citizens to mingle and suggest ideas as they walked around and viewed maps of potential development plans.

The Town of Fraser has been working closely with representatives of Community Builders to brainstorm the strategies that were presented. There were about 25 citizens in attendance Wednesday evening including citizens with ideas and suggestions for Fraser Community Development.

Some for the goals selected by the town and Community Builders were to create a “walkable” downtown core in Fraser, expand economic opportunity, create safe multimodal connections, and increase housing choices. The public was encouraged to present ideas and suggestions to the board. There was also an interactive map where the public could draw what they envisioned for the town. Most everyone in attendance agreed on the importance of a walkable downtown for both visitors and residents. Visitors to towns, especially mountain towns in Colorado, love the idea of shopping and dining in quant mountain communities.

Ideas were also presented where the town utilizes the Fraser River for more business and scenic opportunities. Community Development representatives referenced several other Colorado towns that utilize their rivers for business including shopping, dining, and structures for children to play on, and how effective this could be for Fraser. One suggestion for this was a boardwalk along the Fraser River with restaurants and shops nearby.

A map showed the potential of a roundabout near Safeway in Fraser that would connect US Highway 40, County Road 72, and Meadow Ridge Rd. to help traffic flow and the pros and cons of this idea were discussed.
