GCCS Concert series lineup set for 2013 season
Ryan Summerlin December 6, 2012
Opening on Jan. 18, the Grand County Concert Series (GCCS) celebrates its 10th anniversary season, offering its most ambitious series of concerts.
The season includes four winter concerts and two summer concerts from January through August. Season ticket packages are $90 for six concerts
“Exciting,” said Judy Smith, GCCS President. “The word best describes the responses we’ve received from the community about the schedule of artists who will perform in Grand County next year.”
In addition to presenting superb musicians, Smith points to the unique concert experience in Grand County as one of the reasons that the concert series continues to grow. The concerts are held in the intimate venue of the Church of the Eternal Hills in Tabernash. Each performance is a special opportunity to listen to music and then meet the artists at a complimentary dessert reception afterwards.
One goal of the GCCS is to make classical concerts accessible and affordable. The season ticket price of $90 means each concert costs only $15. This is a wonderful bargain given the quality of the concerts. Individual tickets for each performance are $20. To make the concerts affordable for families, students with a Grand County Student ID are free and adult(s) with the Grand County student are $5 each. Tickets for other students are $10.
The first four concerts take place from January through April. The Lincoln Trio, the Ensemble-in-Residence at the Music Institute of Chicago, will play on Jan. 18. The Italian Saxophone Quartet follows on Feb. 15. Classical guitarist Paul Galbraith will perform on March 8. The Poulenc Trio, the most active touring piano-wind chamber music ensemble in the world, returns to Grand County on April 5.
Both summer concerts take place in August. The Bergonzi String Quartet has been the Quartet-in-Residence at the Frost Music School at the University of Miami since 1992. They perform for the first time in Grand County on Aug. 9.
The season finale presents the Bergmann Piano Duo on Aug. 23.
