Indian Peaks students prepare for geography bee
January 8, 2013
Students at the Indian Peaks Charter School are brushing up on the world’s capital and even names of obscure countries in an effort to win a $25,000 college scholarship.
The first round of the 2013 National Geographic Bee is taking place at Indian Peaks on Tuesday, Jan. 15, including students from fourth through eighth grades. Schools across the U.S. are taking part in the Bee, but it is the hope of Indian Peaks teacher Tallie Gray one of her students advances to the state and ultimately the national competition May 20-22 in Washington D.C.
“We’re rooting for someone from our school,” she said.
Lessons on geography will be in high gear at the school through the week, she said.
