Nonprofit of the Week: Grand Veterans
Ryan Summerlin July 10, 2014
The Grand County Veterans Association (Grand Veterans) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to honor, serve, and support Colorado Veterans and their families while encouraging community involvement. Grand Veterans was founded after recognizing a shortfall in services for local Military veterans, especially in regards to affordable access to VA medical centers. Grand Veterans offers a variety of programs for Grand County’s veterans, including a VA Transportation program that provides one-way and round-trip transportation to VA hospitals and medical clinics in Denver and Golden. Grand Veterans also helps veterans obtain service dog placement, training, and support through the Veteran Service Dog program. Grand County veterans are given opportunities to help support their communities through the volunteer-driver program and the Creati-VET Cards program, where volunteers create homemade cards for deployed U.S. troops to use for writing home. With the support of generous donors, Grand Veterans’ Ticket-Out program provides tickets for Colorado Veterans and their families to attend sporting events, concerts, and more.
