Reputation is the lifeblood of almost every business. From restaurants to construction firms to dentist offices, reputation is of paramount concern for any business aiming for success.

A business’s reputation is additionally important in small communities, like those that fill Grand County, where word of mouth can doom entrepreneurial endeavors before they have even gotten off the ground. Stillwater Garage Doors owner and operator Mark Hutchinson is cognizant of the importance of reputation and hopes his many years of quality work on garage doors in Grand County speak for themselves.

Hutchinson is getting a new business up and running in Grand County called Stillwater Garage Doors and while his independent business is new he has over a decade of experience installing and servicing overhead doors in Grand County. Stillwater Garage Doors offers sales, service and installation of overhead doors and openers for commercial and residential jobs in Grand County. They can also cover all your overhead door and opener repair needs.

Hutchinson previously spent 11-years in the area working for the Denver based firm Overhead Door out of their Grand County offices. “If you were happy with me as your ‘garage door guy’ while I was with Overhead Door, then please give Stillwater Garage Doors a call,” stated Hutchinson. “I offer the same great service and this is truly a local company.”

In January 2015 Overhead Door’s bosses in Denver decided to close the Grand County branch of the business, leaving Hutchinson to find work elsewhere. After spending a few months working down on the plains he headed for home and began preparing to open his new business.

“At this point my goal is to just try to recapture most of the customers we (Overhead Door) had before,” said Hutchinson. “I am trying to get the word out that I am back, under a different name, but it is still me.”

Stillwater Garage Doors works on all major brands of garage doors and openers and is available for service calls throughout the week. The firm handles both commercial and residential jobs and Hutchinson offers free estimates on work. He is fully insured.

Since opening, Stillwater Garage Doors has done work for Mountain Parks Electric, the Grand Fire Protection District and the Town of Kremmling among many other residential customers. The majority of Hutchinson’s contracts so far have been residential with his commercial work starting to pick up.

Lately he has been working with metallic faux wood garage doors that feature metal panels painted to appear like wood paneling. Hutchinson was excited about the product, which he described as, “Lighter weight, less maintenance and cheaper than a full sided door”.

Transitioning into his new role as an entrepreneur has been exciting for Hutchinson who said he relishes the freedom provided by owning his own business despite the additional hours he is working as he wears many different hats. He says he is enjoying the closer interactions with customers and emphasized the importance of good customer service skills.

“When I have a customer come up to me in Ace Hardware and give me a hug because she is happy with her door, that’s great.” Hutchinson said.

Hutchinson grew up in Colorado Springs and has lived in Grand County for over 12 years. He moved to the area from Fort Collins to help a friend remodel his home and ended up staying. Along with his garage and overhead door work Hutchinson operated a part-time business called Just Me and Some Tools, where he performed small construction and remodeling jobs as sideline work.

Hutchinson’s background is somewhat surprising for a man focused on the technical mechanical world of overhead doors. He earned his college degree in special education as an educateur/youth worker and before moving to the high country worked at a residential treatment center in Fort Collins. He got into facilities management and construction work when the facility he worked for suddenly found themselves looking for help on minor repair jobs.
