For one WP shop, business is blooming

Melanie Rendleman is in a unique business for Grand County. Rendleman owns Woodstem Floral and Décor located in Kings Crossing in Winter Park. Woodstem is a full service flower shop that offers fresh flowers, gifts, home furnishings, and décor.
Rendleman worked as a corporate planner in the Denver area, but spent a lot of time in Grand County where her husband works as a Physical Therapist. She moved here full time in 2014 and developed an interest in opening her own floral shop.
Most of Woodstem’s clientele in the summer is wedding parties. Rendleman said she was almost overwhelmed with business this summer, and was amazed that customers found her and sought out her services. Rendleman said she estimated she would provide flowers for about four weddings this summer, but ended up doing 20, with a few more still to go before winter.
She is also a quarter booked for next summer.
Woodstem may even have to hire another employee to help with all the business that is expected next summer, Rendleman said.
As you may guess, the floral business is mostly seasonal, but Rendleman is versatile with her skill set. During the winter she provides interior design services. She said most of her clients are second homeowners and property management companies. Second homeowners often want their mountain condo or house to have a certain mountain feel, and this is where Rendleman’s services come in. Property management companies want their rentals to be appealing online and in photos, so they often seek help from an interior designer to attract clientele.
With a degree in marketing, Rendleman uses her skills to network locally with homeowners, real estate agencies, and property management companies, and she said she has been busy since opening the doors to Woodstem.
Rendleman said her local customer base is rather small, but she would like it to grow. She assumed the flower service would be dedicated to weddings and visitors, so part of the reason she included a gift shop in her business was to draw more locals in. She said the business is not focused on one type of consumer, and that she wants to cater to locals, second homeowners, and visitors, all in the same shop.
