County makes road maintenance decisions

County commissioners voted to add two more streets to more than 800 miles of county-maintained centerline roads.
Road hearings were held during the commissioners’ regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 10.
With consultation from county road and bridge staff, the commissioners agreed to add County Road 5194W near Winter Park, and County Road 5195/Shady Lane cul-de-sac to its maintenance list.
Commissioners denied maintenance to Country Roads 5196 and 8522, both near Tabernash, because they do not currently meet county road standards. Maintenance will also discontinue on County Road 5116, near the Pole Creek Golf Course, which has lots but no homes. Maintenance will discontinue on County Road 4660 as well, near Shadow Mountain Reservoir, which does not meet county standards, but road and bridge staff had inadvertently been plowing during the winter.
The commissioners also discussed 12 applications from individuals wishing to independently plow non-maintained roads. County staff will draft a letter noting that those privately maintained county roads should contract with insured companies.
Road hearings will remain open until Jan. 7, 2014.
