Man who eluded police remains in Grand County Jail
September 20, 2016
The man that led Grand County and state law enforcement on a manhunt last week in Winter Park remains in the Grand County Jail.
Cody Jason Edward Harris, 25, was wanted for several active warrants from other jurisdictions and was arrested for Vehicular Eluding and possession of a controlled substance by the Fraser/Winter Park Police Department (FWPPD) on Thursday, September 15. Harris had warrants in Chaffee County, Jefferson County, and Arvada. His bond is set at $28,500, which includes new charges he now faces after the event last Friday from the Grand County Sherriff's Department.
Charges include unlawful possession of a controlled substance, vehicular eluding, and eluding or attempting to elude a police officer.
An extensive ground search began for Harris by the Grand County Emergency Response Team and K-9 teams on Sept. 14. The search was suspended at approximately 10:30 p.m. without locating the suspect.
A citizen driving on the Mary Jane road on the morning of Thursday, September 15 alerted police when they saw a suspicious man walking along the road.
FWPPD apprehended Harris around 8:30 a.m.
According to Grand County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Lt. Dan Mayer, Harris was believed to be hypothermic, beaten up from the crash and barefoot when he was found. He was transported to Middle Park Medical Center. Harris stayed somewhere in the woods overnight around Mary Jane and faced a cold, rainy night before being captured. Mayer said he is unsure how long Harris will remain in the Grand County Jail since he had so many outstanding warrants from other counties, which may cause him to be transferred and then returned to Grand County Jail.
