Cavatina Duo performs Friday night, Feb. 28

Eugenia Moliner, flute (from Spain) and Denis Azabagic, guitar (from Bosnia) bring their style, sophistication and artistry to Grand County’s classical music stage. Critical acclaim for their performances has been high, including this from the New Yorker Magazine, “This pair is generally considered to be the best of them (flute and guitar duos).”

They met as students in the Netherlands. Moliner was studying with teachers from the Rotterdam Philharmonic and La Mone opera orchestra in Belgium. Azabagic went to the Netherlands to study when Yugoslavia dissolved into armed conflict in the early 1990’s. The Cavatina Duo has performed in major venues and festivals, such as Symphony Center Chicago, the National Concert Hall of Taipei (Taiwan), Da Camera Society (Los Angeles) and Aix-en-Provence Summer Festival (France). Moliner and Azabagic are artists-faculty at the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.

This is the third concert in the 2014 season of the Grand County Concert Series (GCCS). A $1,575 Tour West grant from the Western States Arts Federation and the National Endowment for the arts is helping to pay for the Cavatina Duo’s performance in Grand County. This Tour West grant supports musical performances in the rural communities of Western states.
