Summer Melodrama supports arts in Grand County

The Grand Arts Council is doing something new this year. The Holiday Melodrama is turning into the Summer Melodrama. Since the Melodrama is such an anticipated event in the winter and Rocky Mountain Repertory Theater is not open until June the GAC saw an opportunity to offer the tourists and locals something fun to do over the weekend. The summer Melodrama will be playing the 23, 24 and 25.

The Melodrama titled “The Treasure of Shiver River” has been a holiday tradition for many years and provides good wholesome entertainment for the whole family. Come and Boo the Villain and Cheer for the Hero as they make their way through this traditional comic play. Always great for children of all ages, this is an audience participation event.

In addition to the play you can purchase tickets to a drawing as the Grand Arts Council has been the lucky recipient of the donation of an original portrait donated by a local artist to help raise money for the Grand Arts Council. Tickets for the drawing may be purchased for $5 each or five tickets for $20 throughout year and the final drawing will be at the Holiday Melodrama in December. The winner will be drawn on New Year’s Eve. (You need not be present to win.)

DRAMA IN A NUTSHELL

“The Treasure of Shiver River ” is, in true melodrama form, a classic tale of good and evil. Will the nasty scoundrel Rod Enreel take over the Shiver River Ranch and find the hidden treasure if Colonel Sanders can’t sell his cattle to come up with the mortgage money? Will Marshal Marshall Law, who would love to propose to Heidi Claire, the colonel’s daughter, win her? Or will our heroine Heidi marry the black-hearted villain, even though he only plans to do her in and abscond with the treasure and his romance novel-loving partner-in-crime, Paige Turner. Be sure to boo the villain, cheer the hero, ahhh the heroine, and have fun enjoying the show. Ahhhh. You will have to wait and see.

This event is the an important fundraiser for the Grand Arts Council who’s sole purpose is to support the arts in Grand County. The Grand Arts Council would especially like to thank Barbara Ahrens, director, and all of the actors for their many hours of dedicated work to make this production possible.
