This weekend, fashionistas can get some local wardrobe inspiration while also supporting local women.
The Bridge Grand County will host its first Real Women Fashion Show, with apparel and accessories for adults and kids from local retailers. Several Grand County vendors will showcase and sell their accouterments, including Be… Boutique, Mountain Flair, the Salon at Winter Park and Changes Thrift Store. Resident artists featured at the show include Lavender Elephant and Marjorie Cranston. All proceeds benefit The Bridge and its outreach programs, which serve local women through faith-based mentorship, resource connection and leadership training. “Up here in the mountains, we tend to be an isolated community, it’s hard to make those connections sometimes,” said Mary Housely, a founding member of the non-profit organization.
Based in Granby and founded in 2012, The Bridge has 25 mentor volunteers and about as many members, who meet regularly for bible study, book clubs and family groups. While faith-driven, the charity is non-denominational. Housely said one of the group’s primary goals is to help women in the community get to know each other. While the fashion show serves as a fundraiser, it will also functions as a networking tool in forming those connections. “Come to show, hear our hearts and what we’re doing in community,” Housely said. “We want to be a support to one another.”
