Forest Service closure update
Ryan Summerlin October 18, 2012
Winter Park Area
The U.S. Forest Service closure outside of Winter Park in the Fraser Experimental Forest will be lifted as of Oct. 16, 2012. Sulphur Ranger District would like to thank the public for its patience and compliance while contractors completed this important work to improve safety along national forest system roads and trails.
While the closure has been lifted, please be aware that projects are still underway on the National Forest around Winter Park. Grand County Water and Sanitation District continues its pipe replacement work on Little Vasquez Road while Mountain Parks Electric is in the process of cleaning up some of its hazard tree work along power lines in this area. A contractor is also expected to cleanup some old timber sale units in the area between St. Louis Creek Road and Elk Creek Road before the end of the month. And the Tunnel Hill Fuels Reduction Project is still active around Ice Hill Trail and Lower Cherokee Trail. Please be cautious when recreating in the area, watch for signs and comply with temporary closures – these are in place for your safety.
Grand Lake Area
The roadside hazard tree contractor is returning this week to Kawuneeche Road and North Supply Road to complete hazard tree work in that area. Flaggers will be in place so roads can remain open to hunting traffic. Please anticipate 30 minute delays in each direction. Camping is also restricted in certain areas along this road.
