FWPPD nab snowboard thieves
Ryan Summerlin March 19, 2013
The Fraser/Winter Park Police Department, working in conjunction with security staff from Winter Park Resort, have solved the thefts of 17 snowboards.
The investigation began in January, when six Never Summer snowboards were stolen from the Mary Jane base area during the course of two days. On March 18, Officer Sean Curran responded to the same location on a report of an additional snowboard theft. While speaking with the victim, Officer Curran was contacted by another victim who reported that his snowboard had been stolen as well, and that he had found the board along with several others inside a Honda Odyssey parked in the nearby lot.
Officers subsequently contacted the owner of the vehicle and a companion. After questioning, the two suspects admitted to stealing several snowboards that day, as well as another six snowboards the previous weekend. The suspects also admitted to the thefts that had occurred in January.
While the suspects admitted to selling most of the snowboards on Craigslist, they were still in possession of one of the boards that had been previously reported stolen. The suspects then directed officers to their hotel room where a third suspect and six stolen snowboards were located.
All three suspects, who are from Oklahoma, were arrested and transported to the Grand County Jail where they were booked for investigation of felony theft and conspiracy to commit theft. Bond has been set at $10,000.
